Selling Guide for the Zeal of Zenithar Event

So the Zeal of Zenithar event is upon us once again, and for those of you new to the event, it’s kind of like summer Christmas. The reason for this is that one way to earn your daily trade bars is to buy 10k (or more) worth of items from a guild store. Given that the center of the event is in Belkarth – the area of our home trader – we have a distinct advantage over most other trading guilds. We spent a LOT of money on keeping our spots through this event. To support the guild, please check out our Annual All Skeever Zenithar Raffle!

PRO TIPS FOR SELLING

List Items in Even Amounts

Unlike normal selling, if you are a 9999g pricer vs 10,000g – for this event, don’t do that. See, buyers are trying to reach 10k and they will actually pass over that cheaper item for the 10k one. I’ve also found that listing items in other even amounts makes it easier for a buyer to track what they’ve purchased. So for this event, LIST IN EVEN AMOUNTS! (i.e. 1000, 3000, 5000, etc.)

Do Not Overprice

During the first two years of this event, you could list your Khajiit’s boogers or guar turds for 10k and it would sell. In fact, things went out of the store so fast, people started increasing the prices just so they could keep inventory in the store. And to be honest, our second year, we topped 1 BILLION in sales for the event. But since then, ZOS has added other ways to earn trade bars and last year’s sales, while good, were absolutely nothing spectacular. I also noticed that those crazily high priced items just weren’t moving.

It is true that you can sell at premium prices during this event, but the tip here is to not get too greedy by raising your prices to absurd levels. Again – you could have absolutely done this the first two years and still sold, not so much now.

Hot Items – Treasure Maps, Master Writs, Completionist Stuff

This event seems to really get people in the mood for buying. But what you might not realize is that instead of buying, people can earn trade bars by opening a treasure chest. This means that if you have a bunch of extra treasure maps sitting around, they can actually be sold for decent gold. (This is the one case where I enthusiastically promote a major price mark up!)

Master Writs are popular during this event because you can earn up to seven bonus reward boxes a day (per account) by doing 1 Master Writ of each type (Blacksmithing, Clothing, Enchanting, Jewelry, Woodworking, Alchemy, Provisioning). If you don’t like to do these or you have a bunch, this is the best time to unload those for premium prices.

One of the trends that I’ve watched over the years is that this is a great time to sell things for completionists: rare recipes, plans, style pages, motif pages, overland set pieces…things that people need to finish up their sticker book, etc.

Pretty Much Any Other Reasonably Priced Items

Mats have always been something that sells well, but ever since the Great Economic Crash a few years ago, they don’t always get the premium prices they used to get. However, tempers are always in demand, particularly since a lot of folks are respeccing due to class mastery and the werewolf changes. So I hesitate to predict the mat market this year. If that’s what you’re selling, you will just need to be extra aware of the current market. But really, given the economic scope of this game – just go through your inventory storage and see what you can sell. You might be surprised that stuff that usually takes forever to unload, might fly off the shelf, so to speak – if it’s decently priced. (I guess I keep harping on this, because some people go insane with over pricing and people will quit coming to our shop if they can’t find reasonable sales.)

Pricing Rule of Thumb

If you don’t know what something is worth, then this is the time to get Tamriel Trade Center, Master Merchant, Arkadius’ Trade Tools, or other selling addons. Premium pricing, for me, is the top end of the recommended price OR whatever the average current sale price is rounded up to the next even number. If you have lots of inventory and are trying to clear out a bunch of space, then obviously lower priced items are going to sell fairly quickly. The issue is that during this event, the market can swing extraordinarily fast. Things that sell at a high price at the beginning of the event may completely tank by the end as other sellers saturate the market with duplicates.

If I have multiples of an item, I will generally start with the high end recommended price. If it sells really quickly, then my next listing may up it just a bit. If THAT sells really quickly, then I will relist it at a continuously higher price until it takes just a bit longer to sell. Now if you have a ton of inventory and are just looking to unload things, then you can keep it at that original price until you sell out. Your approach to selling will depend on how much and what kind of stuff you have to sell AND how much time you want to spend listing stuff in the store. Sometimes folks will up their prices a bit just to get relief from that.

PRO TIP – Master Writs

If you are doing Master Writs, then I cannot recommend the add-on Writ Worthy, enough. ALSO a reminder that Aparpalyptic’s Primary Residence serves as the crafting center for BOTH Skeever guilds. It has every crafting station, Mundus stones, trial dummies, Ethereal Well (for filling your ultimate), the Vampire Thrall and Fountain, along with a transmute station, scribing altar, armory station, and dye station. You will also find banker, merchant, and thief assistants ready and waiting to meet your profiteering needs. This is different from the guild hall, which is SaSa’s primary residence and changes throughout the year.

Final Thoughts

This event is a seller’s dream and can be a great way to earn gold and simultaneously make some inventory room. Good luck, and stay cheesy!
